Joys of Reliability – Egypt, Episode 1

One of the greatest joys of my life is to present at the IMRCE Conference in Cairo, Egypt 🌞. After the conference, I visited so many incredible places in Egypt where I found many Reliability inspirations that I captured on video! Here is Episode 1, and it is just the beginning. I hope you enjoy it. Stay tuned for Episode 2 and beyond.

Oh boy. You okay? I’m good. All right. He’s not going to wig out, is he? [Music]

Whoa! I have wanted to visit Egypt for as long as I can remember. When I was young, I wanted to be an Egyptologist, until I realized I would have to live in Egypt and I decided I would miss my family way too much. So for the last 47 years I have dreamed of, I have actually longed to visit Egypt and to see the pyramids. It has been my number one travel goal and now I get to finally achieve it.

I was finally packed and ready to go. I was excited but my ginger cat Marko didn’t want me to leave. But I was leaving him in really good hands, so off I went. Making this Vlog series lets me live it all over again. On this trip I was the happiest I had ever been in my entire life. Thank you for tuning in. I’m excited to share my journey of a lifetime. And I’m excited that we’ll get to share a lot of Reliability Moments together, Egyptian Style. [Music]

It took me three flights to get to Cairo. Hansville, Alabama to Dallas then to Frankfort, Germany and then to Cairo – a long journey but I considered it part of the experience. And, after all, the anticipation of experiencing something big is half the fun. That and I got a really good deal on a business class ticket, so the flying was actually enjoyable. The only fly in the ointment was that I had a tight connection from Dallas to Frankfort. We were delayed out of Huntsville and I thought for sure I would miss my connection. But big kudos to United Airlines because they actually held the flight. That made me and everyone else on our flight very happy. Here we go!

On our way to [Music] Cairo. As we approach Cairo, I have to come clean. This Vlog series covers my trips to Egypt in 2022 and 2023 for the International Maintenance, Reliability and Asset Management Conference. It has become one of the greatest joys of my life to present at that conference and to see Egypt afterwards. I had some pretty big life changes in 2023, so I’m just now getting my Vlog done. But the ancient Egyptian ruins and Reliability Centered Maintenance haven’t changed, so just consider this vlog series twice as good. Okay. Here we [Music] go! Lufthansa and Star Alliance welcome you to here in Cairo Airport and the seat belt above you have been switched off after we have [Music] parked.

Let’s see what’s in here. A closet, slippers, and another closet, and a safe, ironing board. That will come in handy. All right. Let’s look at our view. We have a city view. Oh, I can’t wait to see Cairo. And I can’t wait to see the pyramids.

I made it to my hotel the Royal Maxim Kempinski hotel. And, I know, I’m looking a little rough but I’ve been um traveling now for about 22 and a half hours. But it’s a lovely hotel so I thought I’d show you my room. Let’s take a look. It’s quite lovely. And let’s see the bathroom. The bathroom is really big. And I can’t wait to get in the shower, of course, after traveling for so long.

I’m so grateful to be here. I have been dreaming of visiting Egypt for probably about 40 or 41 years now. And I’ve had such a wonderful experience so far. The Egyptian people are so kind and just so welcoming. I’m just so happy to be here. So stay tuned for some Vlogs. We’re going to be seeing some really amazing things and I’m looking for forward to taking you with me.

After a much needed shower, I ordered some room service, had something really yummy to eat, and then I went to bed. Stay tuned because we’re about to see the pyramids together – mine for the very first [Music] time.

The first time I’m seeing the pyramids. Look at… look at this. Oh my gosh. Is it amazing even every time you see it? Oh, yeah yeah yeah. Because I don’t live next to the pyramids. So every time I come over here, I get excited as well. So, I’m here the Great Pyramids of Giza. I cannot even believe it. I’m not even sure how I feel right now. I’m so overwhelmed in the best kind of way. Um, let’s go see the pyramids!

I started RCMTrainingOnline.com to help organizations gain an understanding of maintenance and reliability basics. After all, the basics pervade just about every asset management solution out there ~ and they’re embedded in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
