The key to Reliable Equipment is the same as the secret to a happy marriage!

Hi everyone. I’m in downtown Las Vegas at the oldest wedding chapel in the city and it reminds me about how important it is that we take care of our equipment properly.

The way I see it, the relationship we have with our equipment is much like the relationship that we have with our spouse, or our boyfriend, or our girlfriend.

If you want a harmonious relationship, then all you need to do is figure out what the other person needs and give that to them. When you don’t do that, it can end up actually being really miserable.

Well the same thing goes with our equipment. You know the equipment that we manage, as responsible custodians, has needs just like a person does. So, it’s up to us to figure out, for example, what specifically would cause it to fail. So that way we can understand how that failure behaves and then we can derive the appropriate Failure Management Strategy for it.

So, there you have it. It’s simple. But it’s not always easy. But Reliability Centered Maintenance is designed specifically to help us to figure out exactly what our equipment needs and exactly how we can meet that need.

I’m Nancy Regan. Thank you for watching.

I started RCMTrainingOnline.com to help organizations gain an understanding of maintenance and reliability basics. After all, the basics pervade just about every asset management solution out there ~ and they’re embedded in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
